The number on its own
This is simply your foreigner identification reference — a letter, seven digits and a final letter. Everyone who settles in Spain receives one, EU or otherwise. By itself it is just a code on a piece of paper; it says who you are, not where you may live.
The green EU certificate or card
Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland who put down roots in Alicante are given a green A4 certificate or a small green card. Alongside the number it records your registered address and confirms you are signed up as an EU resident on the the Costa Blanca.
The TIE residence card
Arrivals from outside the EU receive a TIE — Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero — a proper photo card carrying your fingerprint, your number and the type and length of your permit. It is the document non-EU residents are expected to keep on them.
