The NIE is your identification number; the TIE is the plastic residence card that displays it. Non-EU residents of Alicante need the TIE.
For any stay beyond 90 days, yes — whether for study, work, family or retirement on savings. The visa is obtained at the Spanish consulate in your home country before you travel. Within 30 days of arriving you book a fingerprint appointment, hand in the EX-17 and your photos, and collect the card a few weeks later. We take care of the booking and the paperwork.
